Spring Cleaning

This spring I'm doing a different kind of cleaning. I'm cleaning my soul! I'm trying to weed out all the bad habits and cultivate good ones.

So today I've started by taking back our cable box back to Comcast. No more TV!!! I can still watch Lost and maybe one or two other favorites online, but now the TV won't be a distraction from real life and what's important (being the kind of mother and wife I'd like to be)! I got cable to get me through the marathon nursing in the early months of emma's life, but that justification's over and it's really time to get a life. I can't handle having it because I'm too easily sucked in for hours. So I'm getting rid of it completely. I'm excited because I know when I don't have the TV on I can feel an increase of the spirit in our home and I get much more done. So I know, even though it'll be hard at times (mostly at night), that I'll be better off for it.

The other thing I'm working on cultivating is reading more. There are a lot of books I'd like to read, mostly books that teach/"self help" books, so my goal is a book a month (or more if that's possible). I'm going to concentrate on learning something new every month. (I'm really excited about this goal!) This month I'm starting with a book my mother-in-law gave me called "10 Secrets Wise Parents Know- Tried and True Things You Can Do to Raise Faithful, Confident, Responsible Children". I LOVE it. It's a good one that I would highly recommend. Since I won't be watching TV I should have plenty of time to read now and I'm excited!

I'm also trying to be more active- working out and getting out of the house with the kids more. There's no reason to be couped up all day when the weather's getting beautiful again (as long as we're all healthy- the challenge lately!). I'm so excited for memorial day because that means the pools will be open finally! And we've got a Thanksgiving Point membership to take advantage of too. Plus we're hoping to go camping in June. There's lots of fun things to keep us active! If anyone has any suggestions on things we should try this summer please let me know.

These are just some of the things I'm working on right now. I wanted to share them with you because it makes me feel more accountable when I know other people know what I'm working on. So thanks! I'll let you know how things go.
