We've been wanting to visit them for a long time so this summer we decided to just do it. We took a long weekend and made the 13 hour drive to see them. The drive up there we decided to do at night so the kids would sleep. Yeah, that didn't work as well as we thought. They had trouble getting comfortable enough to sleep well and aiden kept asking for his bed. Poor guy! I felt for him. I hate sleeping upright too. So on the way home we drove during the day and it went much better.
We were there from thursday morning until monday morning. It was a perfect trip! Just long enough, and full of fun, low key activities. Usually when we go on vacation I feel exhausted because we try to fit so much in, but not this trip. It was actually relaxing! We loved getting to see where they live and their cute new home they bought. They took us all around town to their favorite spots, to gorgeous Cour d'Alene Idaho (an hour away), and on a very senic bike ride along a river lined with beautiful pine trees (I really regret not getting pictures of that!). It did rain a little but really only one or two days, and we just enjoyed a day in watching movies- always a favorite activity of ours. We're so glad we were able to make the trip. It's a looong drive but it was worth it! Here's the pictures I took...this is only some of them. I really had to scale back because I took a ton! Hope you enjoy.
These pictures are in downtown Spokane near Gonzaga University.
The coolest slide I've ever seen!

These gondelas take you over the waterfalls, but you can just walk over to the falls- which is what we did.

I hate wearing my glasses unless I'm going to bed (they're just uncomfortable and I don't love the way I look in them) but I some how lost a contact lens when I took them out in the car. So I had to wear them until I could get to the eye doctor the next day to get new contacts.

The ride home.
Enjoying the very beautiful scenery of northern Idaho and all of Montana. I had no idea what a scenic drive it would be! We had a great trip and look forward to more family road trips together. Maybe not this summer but for sure in our future!

Your trip looks like it was so much fun! :) I'm jealous of that water playground! I would totally go there EVERYDAY if we had one! and I don't even have kids! haha (It's also a good 100 something degrees every day here right now. :/
