Thrifting
I always forget how fun a thrift store can be until I go in one and see all the treasures for very little money! I visited one of our local thrift stores this morning, Deseret Industries, and I was in heaven. I found the book section and got lost in all the wonderful books just waiting to be taken home by me. I left with an armful of about 20 books for my kids, and a leather zip up planner case that I'm going to fill with custom made pages I have plans to create soon. (More on that to come!).
My total bill was $11.00! AMAZING deal, especially considering some books cost more than that alone. I think our kids library is going to grow more rapidly now. I don't know why I hadn't thought to go there to buy books before. We get tired of reading the same books after a while so it's nice to be able to pick up some new ones for $1.00 or 50 cents. The kids were pretty excited about the new books too.
I got several Christmas ones because I'm trying to collect them for a tradition I'd like to start with the kids. I read about this somewhere last Christmas. You wrap up 24 Christmas books, put them in a basket under the tree, and starting December 1st every night the kids get to open one to read that night before bed. I'm looking forward to it. I love traditions and it's been fun to get to start new ones now that I have my own little family.
The weather today was cool and reminded me so much of fall which makes me realize how close fall really is, and then winter comes quickly after that (and lasts way to long in my opinion- but I guess that's Utah for you.). Then soon comes February when my baby's due. It just doesn't feel that far away. I have a feeling this pregnancy is going to fly by. That tends to happen when you're busy and not sitting around day dreaming about baby names and how you're going to decorate the nursery; that's the first baby. Now I have 2 kids to think about and keep me busy that it's not uncommon for me to forget I'm pregnant! I'm looking forward to this 3rd baby but I wish time would slow down. I guess I shouldn't think so much about the future and focus more on the present. Enjoy the moment right? I'll work on that.
Now I need to get painting and creating some lovely things for my empty shop! I'm going to fill it up with some things soon- I promise!! I've just been so busy with helping organizing 2 different boutiques, and taking care of my kids and my house. It makes it easy to procrastinate doing the things I need to do for myself. This is exactly why I'm having a me day and the kids and husband are off playing some where. So better get busy before they get back!

I ♥ the book tradition idea! Even if they know the books already, great way to 'surprise' them each day...!
ReplyDeleteAnd I could tell it was a DI from the photo alone!! :)
I never have any luck when I go to DI, or the like. I'm just not a good thrifter, I guess!
ReplyDeleteTry the American Fork one. (that's where I went) I don't know where you live but the provo one can be really picked over and too crowded!
