This week our family is participating in "Turn off the TV week". We're doing it because we watch entirely too much TV at our house. I've always known it was bad for us, especially the kids, but it's so easy to let the TV "babysit" the kids while I get some sleep or get something done. Their Brains are like sponges though. They're learning things so quickly right now. I hate that they know commercial jingles! It only takes one time seeing something for them to be able to repeat it back - good or bad. I want to make sure the things that are being burned into their brain are wholesome and uplifting. I want us to read, do art projects, dance, sing, cook together and just get out and play & explore more.
When I heard about Turn Off the TV Week I thought what a good opportunity to get us started. So I'm excited to unplug the TV and the DVD player and get us out of the house and doing more activities this week. Even though I'm excited to try this I know it will be challenging for me because I have a lot of favorite shows, but I know both the kids and I will be better off with out the TV on.
Happy Turn Off the TV Week.
Get out and play!
How about "no TV week except for Lost on Tuesday night"? I think that would work for us better:)
