Cupcake Chic- grand opening!

Today was the "official" grand opening of Cupcake Chic! There was even a ribbon cutting by "Miss Orem"(So that's what beauty pageant winners do- I've always wondered.), the mayor and the chamber of commerce! All very official. After the ribbon cutting they gathered Trista's and DeAnn's (the owners) family for a photo opp of the ribbon cutting and Aiden and Emma thought they needed to be a part of it. I managed to get Emma out of the way but Aiden squeezed to the front (!) before I could grab him too. Trista insisted it was okay so he's front and center in their photo! She's so nice.

Trista (shown above in the apron) and her mom DeAnn are the owners of Cupcake Chic. If you'd like to hear their story you can read it here. They're the best to work for. They're both so laid back and fun! Working here has been a dream. It really doesn't feel like work at all. It has made me realize that this is what I want to do. I've always loved baking. Why didn't I ever think to do that in school?

I work from 6am - 9am which is working out perfectly at home. I feed Owen, get him back to sleep and then depending on when he has his feeding I either get ready and head off to the shop or get a little more sleep and then go. Then when I get home I feed him again and put him down for a nap and Kart leaves for work. Perfect!!

When I get to work I usually just bake. I use to always make frosting, until I was trained to bake. Now I usually just bake but sometimes I do both. (she's having the night crew make frosting now) Then, if I have time, I get to frost & decorate the cupcakes! That's my favorite part; swirling on that frosting and sprinkling it with something pretty. I always work with someone else. Usually it's just me and Trista, but occasionally it's her mom DeAnn and I or all 3 of us, or once I baked with one of the other girls they hired to bake.

Every day we have different flavors in the case. There's only a couple that are every day; like red velvet. Then every season she has new flavors that come out. I'm looking forward to the pumpkin one in the fall! Mmmmm. Right now my favorites are the ones with chocolate chips in them. (cherry chocolate chip and chocolate chip cookie)
For the grand opening they gave out mini red velvet cupcakes!
(which I got to frost this morning) So cute!
Emma doing her "I'm trying to be cute" face.
Our awesome menu board Trista's husband designed. (He's done all their graphic design work, and is actually in the same program as my husband at UVU!)
Aren't those light fixtures cool? I love them.
Well if you live in Utah or are ever visiting the area, come on by! You'll be amazed by how delicious these cupcakes are.

  1. awww! I wish I were in Utah right now! Emma sure does think she's the cutest thing in the world, doesn't she. Too bad she is! haha. This makes me want to bake, but I'm on a diet! AHHH! Maybe I'll be a good neighbor and bake some to give away. :)

  2. Hey, we ended up making it there around 2:30 yesterday. I never got Cameron to take another nap so I just decided to go. I saw Anna just leaving as we pulled up. We got a key lime one and a cherry chocolate one. They were both really good and everyone loved the mini red velvet cupcakes. Logan says you're a great salesman for Cupcake chic. hee hee
