She's FOUR!

Emma turned four last week, so to celebrate we invited some of her friends to join us for a princess and knights party! I seriously considered doing just a family party, because I was pretty busy, but I knew she was old enough to really enjoy a friend party.  I'm glad I changed my mind because I think she had a great time.  All the girls came dressed up as princesses (and one dragon!) and they decorated crowns, and the boys got to be knights and decorated shields. We played some games to find the dragon that stole the kingdom's treasure (their take-home gift boxes full of treats). When they finished all the games the dragon (owen) came out with a bag of their treasure and they tickled him to get it back!
After that we had kraft macaroni + cheese (her birthday request) and sparkling cider. (I thought that was fitting for a princess, along with the "fancy" dishes I found at the $1 store.)
Don't you just love the JOY in their faces! I do.

Then presents and cake.  I wanted to find a princess cake topper but couldn't find anything worth buying so I cut up the cover of her princess sticker book and taped them together with some skewers on the back.  (which she was upset about when she noticed a week later! Oops.) I really like how it turned out. She has really enjoyed playing with everything she was given and had a lot of fun with all her friends.  I'm glad they could all make it!

This is what happens when I leave the room and Owen and his sweets radar get a hold of Emma's cake! (At least it was just the back) Oh that child...

Do you like paper castle and the banners? I love the banners the best.  I wish I could better capture this cute backdrop with my camera.  I am so grateful my sister came over to help me cut it all out.  It was a late night and it would've been a lot worse with out her help!

A couple days later we had a family party with Kart's family and I made a second cake. (chocolate this time because I wasn't crazy about my vanilla cake I did for the first one)  Every one loved the cake! I really have found the perfect chocolate cake recipe. I'm so glad because it's been a long search. (about a year) These big candles were the only ones we could find at her house but they work.  And they matched the cake!

I can't believe Emma's four already.  She's getting so big! I'm actually experimenting with letting go of her nap to see if she'll sleep at night better.  (she normally takes a long time to fall asleep.)  But it might be a process.  She was fine yesterday without one and then went right to sleep at night,  but then today she was so tired she took a long nap and then had trouble falling asleep tonight! So maybe it'll take a couple weeks to get her use to just going to bed earlier so she's not tired during the day.

I'm so glad Emma is a part of our family.  She may sound like Beaker from the Muppets sometimes, but she has such a sweet and happy spirit.  She's very helpful and loving- especially with her brothers (they play so well together), and can be such a funny girl. I love watching her grow and learn new things all the time.  I can't wait to see what's in store for her in her life.
I love you Emma!
Happy Birthday
