So I don't remember if I ever mentioned this on my blog but this summer a friend (and old roommate) of mine asked me to illustrate a book she wrote for her young daughter. I said "Sure!". I thought it'd be a good challenge and I was already trying to draw more at the time. So I started in august and didn't finish until December! It was definitely challenging. I drew all the illustrations with pencil and then went over them again in ink. Then I scanned them into the computer and digitally colored them. I've never digitally colored before, so it was all very experimental. I think the hardest part was trying to come up with images that I felt were consistent and good and that told the story. It was a challenge, but I knew it would be. It was good for me. It made me realize I have a lot to learn still if I'd like to do more illustrating like that. Well Meredith published her book online (www.blurb.com) and sent me a copy (Thanks Mere!) and of course gave a copy to her daughter for Christmas. It's still available online to look at if you'd like to see it. (you can read the whole story- it's really cute! She did a great job writing it.)
