I love cozying up with my kids on the bed or in a chair and reading to them before nap time and bed time. It's a tradition we started when they were very young and I feel is important. I think the biggest benefit I've seen so far is how much my kids love books already. They're not reading on their own yet, but that doesn't stop them from enjoying books. I'm always catching them looking at books...or sitting in a big pile of them pouring over the pictures of their favorites!
Some of our favorites right now are:
- The Complete Adventures of Curious George
- Classic Treasury of Nursery Songs and Rhymes
- The Little Engine That Could
- Where the Wild Things Are
- Mr Brown Can Moo! Can You?
- I CAN FLY (Little Golden Book)
(I love the vintage illustrations in this one)
- When Bunny Grows Up (Little Golden Book)
I could spend a lot of money in the kids section at a bookstore. There are so many I'd love to add to their library. New books can be expensive though. One of my favorite places to buy books is the thrift store. Talk about cheap books! I came home with probably 20 books last time I went and none of them were more than $2.00! Then I feel like I can justify the occasional "expensive" book. If you'd like an extensive list of recommended reading for kids you can find one here and here.
