Self Reliance

We are so blessed to live in a neighborhood of gardeners. So many people in our area garden, and several of them have huge gardens. Most of them offer up their excess produce to us, and this year one of our wonderful neighbors offered up some of her garden plot for us to plant in! I was so excited because she gets irrigation so I won't have to worry about watering every day. And she gave me as much space as I wanted so I got to plant several different things.
Onions, tomatoes, beans, zucchini, carrots,
eggplant, yellow summer squash, spaghetti squash,
orange and green bell peppers and jallapenos!
So far it all seems to be growing great. I'm excited to harvest at the end of the summer. I had the kids help us plant, and they had a great time covering the roots in dirt and watering them. I love teaching the kids where their food comes from. Now I just need to do some weeding. The worst part. But if that's the price I have to pay for fresh produce - I'll take it!

Our sweet neighbor helping Aiden & Emma plant.

They were so happy helping cover the plants.

This gives you sort of an idea of the size of her garden. It actually goes several more rows to the right! AND this is only one of two gardens she has plus they have fruit trees and beehives! Talk about self reliance! She and her husband are such hard workers and some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. I want to be just like them. I just hope to learn all I can from them while we live here.
