our back to school feast

Since Kart started a new semester and Aiden was starting Kindergarten I wanted to have a special dinner and night together. I was inspired by a tradition that blogger Stephanie Nielson has been doing with her family.  We had a nice dinner of roast chicken with gravy, roasted potatoes and carrots, rolls and sparkling grape juice.  We toasted to a great school year (the kids LOVED clinking our glasses). And after dinner we talked about our theme for the year; "seek learning".  We found our theme in the scripture D&C 88:118.  It says: And as all have not afaith, seek ye diligently and bteach one another words of cwisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best dbooks words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.
So our goal as a family is to always be learning. Were never going to know everything, so there's always more we can learn.  I want the kids, and Kart and I, to find joy in learning and not see it as something we just have to do for school but that we can all enjoy learning more every day about what ever it is that interests us.

After we talked about our theme, Kart gave Aiden a father's blessing.  This is a tradition I grew up with, getting a father's blessing before starting the school year, and I would like it to be a tradition for our family. You should have seen how reverent Aiden was.  I've never seen him sit so still with his arms folded and eyes closed during a prayer.  I could tell he could feel the spirit and knew that this was important.  I think it also made him feel really special.  He's since asked me when he can have another one.  I'm so grateful Kart is able to bless our children.  It was a wonderful and spiritual night. I'm looking forward to continuing this tradition.
