I married an awesome man.
He really went all out to make me feel special on my birthday, and make my 30th a fun one.
We already had plans to go to a friends house the night before my birthday to have a fondue/raclette party with a big group of friends from church. What I didn't know is that Kart had decorated our friend's house with color coordinated balloons, streamers, a banner, and posters about me (designed by Kart of course), and bought me a cake, also blue and red (one of my favorite color combos) and a dozen of my favorite dessert in Utah- mint brownies from The Chocolate (a dessert cafe here in Orem), along with some of their other brownie flavors! It was a great surprise and I was so grateful that my friend brought her camera because I didn't bring mine. So all these lovely pictures are thanks to her.
I love my posters! There were several more that I didn't get pictures of. They were all great.
(uh, not true!)
"Happy birthday to you...."
The big 3-0!
It was a really fun night, with just a few of the many great friends we have in our ward. I'm sad several of them are moving soon. Being with all of them was a great way to kick off my 30th birthday and a whole new decade of my life. Nothing like good food, great people and no kids to worry about! (thanks to my sister Nat who took care of our wild kids while we were out.)
So the party was only part one of Kart's surprise for me. Part two, the gift part, he made me wait a very looong week for. I only knew that the kids were spending the night at Grandma's house overnight. I love surprises so I was really excited about our special date. After we dropped off the kids last friday afternoon, he blindfolded me and drove me though provo canyon until we got to the Zermatt Resort in Midway UT!
I was SO excited when we got there and I could take off the blindfold and found out we were going to stay at Zermatt! A friend of mine just recently stayed there and I was just telling Kart how we should go there sometime (This just happened to be after he'd paid for our reservations...so he was excited to hear me say that.). Not only did we get to spend the night there but he also arranged for me to get a massage there during our stay! I was literally so happy I almost cried. It was just what I needed. I was excited to get away with Kart. It's been too long since the two of us have done anything like that. It was so nice to just be alone with him, walk around holding hands and feel kind of like newlyweds again. :)
I love how close the Zermatt resort is. I'd love to go back sometime and stay longer. The bed was so comfortable, and they have an indoor/outdoor pool and hot tubs inside and outside. They even have a carousel that runs in the summer. The onsite restaurant and bistro have delicious food. Park City and Sundance are both really close too. If we'd had more time I would've loved to have gone snowboarding with Kart. Next time maybe. :) The inside of the resort always smelled amazing- like freshly baked danish. Mmm. And one of my favorite things about it was how when you walk to the front door, you can hear swiss music playing - sort of a trumpeting, like they're welcoming you to the palace. It sounds silly, because it is, but I loved it. :) I love how authentic they try to make the place look and feel. OH! And they have a european bakery there that sells gelato and french pastries! Heavenly. I really wish we could've stayed longer than a night, but I'm glad we could stay there at all! Like I said- I married an amazing man who knows me and loves me so much. I'm so grateful for him and the way he makes me feel everyday. He still treats me just as wonderful as he did from day one.
Happy birthday to you! So glad it was awesome! And you could TOTALLY still pass for 23 :)
