Six years ago (on April 23rd) Kart and I became parents for the first time. It was quite the learning experience for all of us, and still is with each milestone and year of Aiden's life. I'm so grateful for Aiden, and the sweet boy he is. It's so fun to watch him grow, learn new things, and see his talents and interests develop.
He's such a great artist. (One time he asked Kart "Do you hope you will be as good of an artist as me one day?" Haha!) His work is very abstract and often layered with different mediums and textures. I find his art so inspiring! And I love that I can be inspired by my children. Lately he's been really into making up songs, usually about what ever it is we're doing at the moment. He's a good little singer and I love that he enjoys music. He also really likes playing outside and pretending to be a daddy or a policeman, and occasionally a "bad guy". His favorite food is pepperoni pizza (which we had for his birthday dinner) and he said he wants to be a daddy when he grows up. (Aww! I did have to explain that I love that he wants to be a daddy, but daddy's have to have jobs too to make money.)
To celebrate his birthday, we had a family party on the day of his real birthday and a friend party the following saturday. I made him our traditional birthday shirt and he got a crown at school for his birthday.
We had pizza, ice cream cake and presents with Kart's family and my sisters.
Kara and Natalie gave him a sword (after they found out that's what he told his classmates he wanted), and he was SO excited. He asked me - "Mom! How did they know that's what I wanted?!" It was funny. He loved all the presents he got though.
My cutie pie Emma ready to party!
Nea and Owie.
My sister Natalie asked me to make her the ice cream cake our mom makes, for her birthday this year, and I loved it so much I made it for Aiden's birthday too. It's so good and SO easy!
No baking required.
Happy birthday Aiden!!
See. Doesn't it look good?!
All you have to do is get two cake pans. Fill the bottom of each pan with a mixture of crushed oreos and melted butter (I think it's about a stick of butter to a whole package of oreos) that you press into the bottom of the pans. Then fill each pan with soft/almost melted ice cream. Freeze the layers, then after dipping the bottoms of the pans into hot water, flip the pans over to get the ice cream "cake" out. Stack the layers on a cake stand or plate and freeze them again. Then frost with whipped cream. (I did chocolate whipped cream for this cake) Volia! You're done. So easy and totally delicious.
