Art Birthday Party

For Aiden's friend party I thought it'd be fun to have an art party, since his favorite thing to do is make "designs".  The first thing we did was paint 8x10 canvases any way they wanted.  It was fun to see what they each came up with. I'm sad I only took a picture of Aiden's.  I love it though and it's now hanging on our wall.
After painting we went outside to play, do face painting and take pictures with the red frame. (the pictures at the top of the post) Then we came in for cupcakes and snacks.  I found a free printable for these awesome chocolate covered pretzel crayons here.  I LOVE how they turned out.  (My only warning is that the construction paper left a weird taste on the chocolate if the paper was on them too long.  The ones we ate right away tasted fine, but the leftovers tasted strange. I'm not sure how to describe it. Just eat them right away.)
I kept the decorations pretty simple; rainbow paper chains and balloons.

I made chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting and used the colored chocolate from the pretzels to make the "paint" designs I stuck into the frosting for decoration.  I just swirled it in random designs on wax paper and froze it until hard.  I think they turned out great!  The mini cupcakes I just used rainbow sprinkles.

Finally we had presents.  He got lots of fun art supplies, action figures, summer fun toys (water guns and balloons) and even some caterpillars that we'll get to watch turn into butterflies! (Those are coming in the mail soon. Fun idea huh?!)

I am still learning how to plan parties, learning being the key word here, I think everyone had a great time, and that's all I really care about in the end! I am officially partied out after last month though.  In fact I decided we're only doing friend parties on even year birthdays. I can't believe how old he's getting. Before I know it he'll be graduating high school and leaving home! I better enjoy having in our home while I can. :) And I do.  Aiden's awesome and I'm glad he's ours!
